My name is Annalie and I am the owner of Cake Works.

My passion for cake and cupcake decorating started in 2003 with a book by Debbie Brown and a lot of enthusiasm to do my son's 3rd birthday cake.

Since that first cake, until today, I have baked and decorated hundreds of cakes.

Our classes are aimed at having fun and showing you what you are capable of with the right tools and techniques.

Cupcake basics

Level: Beginner

Duration: 60-90 min

Price: $50.00

Limited to 5 students per class

 

A great first class, to introduce you to the wonderful world of cupcakes.

 

You will learn:

  1. How to Bake Cupcakes - Discussion only.
  2. How to make Buttercream, step by step.
  3. How to fill and use a piping bag.
  4. Basic piping techniques with different piping tips.
  5. Creative ways to use store bought decorations.
  6. How to present your cupcakes.

 

You will go home with:

 

  1. Six decorated cupcakes in a presentation box.
  2. Cupcake Basics notes and tips.
  3. A $10.00 voucher for use on a future class.
  4. A basic cupcake recipe.
  5. A basic Buttercream recipe.

SPECIAL OCCASION CUPCAKES

Level: Intermediate 

Duration: 60-90 min

Price: $60

Limited to 5 students per class

 

A more advanced class in cupcake decorating. Follows on the basic cupcake class. 

 

You will learn:

 

1. How to cover a cupcake in fondant.

2. Using mats, stamps and molds.

3. Creating simple gumpaste roses.

4. How to make a bow.

5. Using stencils.

6. Using cutters and tools

 

 

You will go home with:

1. 9 Decorated cupcakes in a box.

2. Notes and tips.

3. A $10.00 voucher to use on a future class 

 

 

 

 


THE FROSTED CAKE

Level: Beginner

Duration: 60-90 min

Price: $70

Limited to 5 students per class  

 

This class will focus on teaching how to frost a cake to professional standards.

 

You will learn:

 

1. How to tort and fill a cake.

2. Talk about flavour combinations.

3. How to prepare a cake for frosting.

4. How to frost a cake in 3 different ways.

5. How to colour buttercream.

 

 

 

You will go home with:

 

 1. A frosted cake good enough to impress your friends and family.

2. A $10 voucher to use on a future class.

 


FONDANT BASICS

Level: Beginner to intermediate.

Duration: Over two nights

Price: $120

Limited to 3 students per class. 

 

This class focuses on learning the basics to creating a professional looking cake. 

 

You will learn: 

 

Night one:

1. How to level your cake.

2. How to make ganache.

3. How to apply ganache to get smooth straight sides and a flat top.

4. How to colour fondant.

5. How to cover a cake board in fondant.

6. Introduction to cake tools and materials.

 

Night two:

1. How to cover a round cake in fondant.

2. How to achieve smooth sides and straight edges. 

3. How to make fondant cut outs.

4. How to use ready made decorations and materials 

 

 

You will go home with: A Decadent Mudcake

 

 

1. A  8" themed cake.

2. Notes and tips.

3. Chocolate mud cake recipe 

4. Ganache recipe 

5. A $10 gift voucher to use on a future class 

 


PRIVATE CLASSES 

We are also able to provide private classes for 1-2 people at a time. These classes are suited for anyone unable to attend regular class times or if you find yourself being able to do the basics well and wanting to learn a specific technique or skill.

We can customize a class to suit your needs. Individual classes are $50 per hour or $80 per hour for 2 people.

Minimum 2 hour booking.
